About Us
DJS Arya, the official canister satellite team of DJ Sanghvi
College of Engineering , Mumbai, was formed in the year 2017 by a group of students from EXTC,
Mechanical, Computer departments, intrigued by the world of space technology.
Just as the name suggests,
we build a fully functional miniature satellite integrated with space technology, which we present each year
at the annual International Cansat competition
, conducted by the American Astronautical Society (AAS) in collaboration with NASA.
About the CanSat competition
It is a competition which allows students to get involved with the end-to-end life cycle of a complex engineering project, from conceptual design, through integration and test, the actual operation of the system and concluding with a post-mission summary and debrief.
The CanSat competition majorly consists of 3 rounds, namely:-
- The PDR round, which is presenting a review of the preliminary design
- The CDR round, which is the critical design review, which is the presentation of the final design
- The PFR round,which is post flight review where the actual launch of the cansat takes place in USA
What is a Cansat
A CanSat is a simulation of a real satellite, integrated within the volume and shape of a soft drink can. It must typically consist of a container and a science payload. The challenge is to fit all the major subsystems found in a satellite, such as power, sensors and a communication system, into this minimal volume. The CanSat is then launched to an altitude of a few hundred metres by a rocket and helps us monitor altitude, airspeed and other such factors as well as help detect particulates in the air while gliding.
Departments
Electronics
The Electronics Department tests, calibrates and integrates the system design of the CanSat along with looking after uninterrupted communication and intensive testing.
Mechanical
The Mechanical Department caters to the testing, manufacturing and designings an aerodynamically sound CanSat which is tested for maximum efficiency.
Coding
The Coding Department looks after the programming aspects of the Graphic User Interface which displays the real time plotting of data recieved from the sensors present in the CanSat.
Marketing
The Marketing Department develops and executes various strategies to ensure proper management of the team along with looking after the finances and social media of the team.
The Electronics Team
The Electronics department tests, designs and manufactures all the electronics of the CanSat design and ensures that they meet with the optimal results.
The members collaborate for the optimum sensor selection and it's testing for the proposed CanSat, followed by calibration and integration with the help of a structured code. which are then integrated together on a PCB, designed and manufactured by the Electronics department.
The department also overlooks the communication and telemetry of all the sensor collected data.
The Mechanical Team
We learn every aspect of the CanSat design in the mechanical department of DJS Arya and ensure that the best results are achieved.
The department performs a significant role in CanSat designing, manufacturing, from selecting the correct materials to assembling the physical components, to delivering a streamlined, aerodynamic result.
Starting from scratch, the members collaborate to build a complete three-dimensional model of the proposed CanSat, which complies with the mission statement.
The Coding Team
The main aspects of Coding department revolve around the concepts of communication and data-transfer. Along with developing the Graphical User interface (GUI) for live plotting of the telemetry data, it is also responsible for maintaining the logs in CSV.
This department's primary responsibility is to ensure successful wireless transmission and relay communication of sensor data between the payloads, container, and ground station.
Being in charge of subsystem code compilation and finalization of algorithms,programming languages ,acceptable telemetry format and developement environments to be utilised are also decided here.
The Marketing Team
The Marketing Department develops and executes various strategies to ensure proper management of the team along with looking after the finances and social media of the team.
The primary role of this dept includes procuring sponsorships, managing social media and it also plays a key role in the management of the team to ensure proper functioning of the team to achieve maximum efficiency.
It aims to maximise the team’s reach on social media platforms such as ig, linkedin and fb So despite being a tech team, the marketing dept plays an important role in the functioning of the team

Preliminary Design Review
DJS Arya secured the 2nd rank in the world for our Preliminary Design Review (PDR) round in the International CanSat Competition 2020 - 2021. The PDR is the first round of the competition in which we secured a score of 99.6269 %.
Critical Design Review
DJS Arya secured the 1st rank in India and the 3rd rank in the World, overall after our Critical Design Review (CDR) round in the International CanSat Competition 2020 - 2021. We have secured an average score of 99.3861 % after both our reviews.
Environmental Tests
Environmental test were performed to check the functionality of the CanSat. They are subcategorized into four main tests: Drop test, Vibration test, Vaccum test & Thermal test. Our team successfully carried out all the tests.

Do we have to make our own rockets?
In simple words, No. We build a CanSat - A Cannister Satellite that is a satellite that is used for teaching space technology. It is made such that all its components can fit inside a standard soda can.
